Packrat UI Idea

I’ve been thinking of taking a different approach with Packrat’s user interface. I could go ahead and do this in Packrat 2 or wait till Packrat 3. The approach would be to make Packrat look like most information manager apps on the Mac which all look kind of like Mail. Each Backpack page would be treated like a folder. Selecting a page (or folder) would display a list of all the items (notes, images, etc.) on the page (in the folder). Then selecting an item would display that item.

I kind of like this approach. What do you think?

Would it be a 3 pan window then? I’m ok with the actual layout and use packrat every day. But it seems obvious to change the layout to the standard. Although I don’t think it’s necessitative.

It would just be like Mail. A view on the left contains a list of folders. A view on the top (but left of the folder view) contains a list of the contents of the folder (or page). A view below that contains the contents of the selected item (be it a note, image, whatever).

  3. Personally I am a fan of current interface, which mimics Backpack normally. Perhaps a switch to toggle between the 2 interface styles would be useful…
