Numerology Now in Spanish (Numerología ahora en español)

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Numerology 1.9.6 was just approved by Apple and is now available in the iTunes App Store. This version adds a Spanish localization, so now you can read all the numerological analysis in Spanish as well as use the user interface in Spanish if that is your language of choice. The localization was done by a native speaker. Thank you so much Wendy Eav.

15% of Mobile Apps Launched Offline

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

Here’s an interesting article that shows the need for apps to work when they are not connected to the internet: http://www.tuaw.com/2011/05/10/15-of-mobile-apps-launched-while-offline/.

This shows the need for apps like Packrat exists, although Packrat is on the Mac, so it solves the case for laptops. What about iPhone and iPad? Are there enough Backpack clients for the iPhone and iPad? Do they have an offline mode? Would you like to see Packrat for the iPhone or iPad?

Numerology 1.9.3 and Numerology Lite 1.5.3 are now available in the app store. These updates bring the following changes:

  • w is no longer ever treated as a vowel. This change was made because of errors in calculations and feedback from numerologists.
  • The Facebook integration now gets extended permissions so it can access birthdays.
  • Numerology Lite now has ads.
  • Now handles accents and other special characters in a name.

Numerology 1.9.1 submitted to iTunes

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Updated to Numerology and Numerology Lite have been submitted to the iTunes store for approval. I fix some errors in the calculations. Turns out you should reduce each part of a numerological calculation before adding up the sums and reducing again.

It doesn’t effect most people because the results turn out the same. It mostly effected people with master numbers in their name.

Numerology Update Submitted

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

The update to Numerology has been submitted to Apple. Should be available in a week or so. This version adds iPad functionality, fixes a bug that caused birth dates to change when time zones changed, and fixes a bug in calculating a person’s age of maturity. Also, it takes advantage of the new iPhone 4 Retina Display by providing higher resolution images and larger profile pictures.

UIDatePickerViewController is in Use

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Today I was working on Numerology for the iPad and I was trying to implement a date picker inside a popover. You can’t just put a UIDatePicker in the popover because you need a view controller. So I created a view controller and called it UIDatePickerViewController. It simply would not work. All I would get is a popover with a black area. I couldn’t figure out what was going on. Then I decided to just use the UIViewController class but load in the nib I created for my view controller. Viola it started to work. Then I realized my class name was the problem. I renamed the class DatePickerViewController and it worked as well. Somewhere Apple must have a private class called UIDatePickerViewController.

Bottom line: Don’t use class names similar to Apple’s class names. It will bite you sooner or later.
